At this stage, it is believed that two men and one woman were killed, with at least one of these people an instructor.

The area's local mayor, John Kremastos, told the ABC that the incident was "horrible news", saying: "Three people in one accident is very, very sad".

Initial investigations indicate a solo skydiver collided with a tandem skydiving pair.

Paramedics said they were called out just after 3:00pm to Alexander Drive where two men and one woman were found deceased.

"Skydiving operations have been suspended at Mission Beach while the appropriate authorities conduct an extensive investigation". They were also pronounced dead.

"I watched it unfold".

"You could see one chute was tangled and it wasn't opening", said the witness who asked not to be named.
