Seth MacFarlane Joked About Harvey Weinstein At 2013 Oscars Announcement

Seth MacFarlane joked about Weinstein's misconduct at 2013 Oscar nominations

Taking to Twitter, he slammed suggestions he did nothing about the situation and revealed there was a dark-truth behind the now in-famous wisecrack.

It wasn't the first (or last) time that a joke about Weinstein's misconduct had been made prior to the recent revelations.

TMZ reports that Seth MacFarlane made his joke about Harvey Weinstein at the 2013 Oscar Nominations on behalf of his friend, Jessica Barth (who worked on Family Guy and Ted), who told MacFarlane in 2011 that Weinstein had made advances towards her. MacFarlane was so upset about this that he chose to take a shot at Weinstein publicly. It was with this account in mind that, when I hosted the Oscars in 2013, I couldn't resist the opportunity to hake a hard swing in his direction.

It came hours after actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow claimed Weinstein targeted them early in their careers and he faced bombshell claims he raped three women, including Italian actress Asia Argento. "Make no mistake, this came from a place of loathing and anger".

The joke has gone viral over the past few days as details about Harvey's alleged abuse has become public, with some questioning if it proved the industry knew all along and it had become an 'open secret'.

It's also come out that Weinstein wrote a desperate pleading email to Hollywood executives hours before his firing.

Weinstein stands accused of sexual harassment by several women in Hollywood, leading to his dismissal from his own company and separation from his wife.

"I support her decision, I am in counselling and perhaps, when I am better, we can rebuild", Weinstein said.

Jessica Barth, who has also been among them, also took to Twitter to defend her friend, saying he should be "applauded" for the joke as he was one of the few men fearless enough to speak out. Affleck claimed in a statement that he was "saddened and angry" when he heard about what Weinstein has done.

MacFarlane took some heat on social media after issuing his statement Wednesday, with critics contending the 2013 comment proves he was aware of Weinstein's behavior but - aside from making the televised jab - did nothing else to stop it.

Weinstein was sacked Sunday by the Weinstein Co.
