FIFA bans Pakistan Football Federation over 'undue 3rd-party interference'

Pakistan Football Federation suspended by FIFA over 'third party interference'

Citing undue third party interference in the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) affairs, FIFA said in a press release that Pakistan's membership would remain suspended until the federation's "offices and its accounts remain in control of a court-appointed administrator". Both the factions were claiming that they were right, but look what happened in the end, it is the country which suffered due to ban and also the soccer players who have already been striving to earn something for them and the country. Furthermore, audit wasn't carried despite warnings from supreme body of football. This would require the offices and access to the accounts of PFF returned to the federation itself.

However, in a bid to fix the issue, a high court-appointed administrator took over the running of the PFF - but that move came in violation of Federation Internationale de Football Association statutes regarding political interference. The PFF teams will no longer be entitled to compete in elite competitions until the ban is lifted.

The suspension also means that neither the PFF nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

"FIFA had sent Pakistan a very clear message".

The election of politician Faisal Saleh Hayat as PFF president two years ago and subsequent allegations of vote-rigging meant football has effectively ground to a halt in the traditionally cricket-orientated country. However, PFF swiftly acted and a High Court committee ordered an official appointed by them to take over the reigns from Saleh.

"They might be ranked 200 in the world, and mightn't have played a full global for two-and-a-half years, but we all know how risky Pakistan can be at world events", Messi said. But the move backfired as FIFA norms clearly state that no third party political body can control the National Football Federation of a country. "Instead of working for the betterment of football and players in particular, the PFF was more busy in fighting and never paid heed to improve Pakistan team's rankings".
