His stoppage time penalty sparked wild scenes after the match

The president announced the reward on Monday as he met the Argentine coach Hector Cuper and the players.

The win clinched Egypt a long-awaited spot in Russian Federation for the 2018 World Cup finals, where the Arab world's most populous country will compete on football's ultimate stage for the first time since Italy in 1990.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah converted a stoppage-time penalty to give Egypt a 2-1 win over Congo on Sunday and a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

Mohamed Salah scored from a penalty kick deep into injury time on Sunday to send Egypt to the World Cup and end a near 30-year wait for Africa's most successful team.

But with some of its star players competing in European top flight football it's hoped "the Pharaohs" will make the 2008 Russia World Cup a historic one for the country.
