Calipari says United Kingdom has not been contacted by NCAA about FBI investigation

Kentucky head coach John Calipari got a dose of that reality during the Wildcats' media day on Thursday.

The FBI's investigation into corruption throughout college basketball will be the story of the season.

Calipari said freshman Jarred Vanderbilt would be re-evaluated in another week or so. "But here's the thing for everyone here: I don't want to come across as uneducated or dumb".

Calipari said that the players he has this year are interchangeable, "If we had Jarred playing, you could play without a point guard because he could be the point guard. Obviously what happened to this point isn't good".

"I have no comment", Calipari said.

Of course, that didn't stop the questions.

On Wednesday, NCAA president Mark Emmert formed a Commission on College Basketball, chaired by Dr. Condoleeza Rice and including university presidents and athletic directors, former head coaches and executives within the sport, and former NBA stars Grant Hill and David Robinson. "At the end of the day, this is about the student athletes. If each individual institution is just anxious about themselves, and the last thing we think about is these kids, we're gonna make wrong decisions".

Here is the link to watch the entire press conference. There's going to be a time where I'll say, 'Here are some things I think we need to do.' It'll probably be on CoachCal.com where you can read it. The NCAA hasn't contacted us. Log onto social media, and accusations are thrown all over the place. I don't know where all this is going.

However, what's not speculation is the fact that Calipari has a loaded roster this season in Lexington.

The reference to Nike's potential involvement stems from reports last month that the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League was served with a subpoena.

John Calipari was not happy about answering questions about the FBI's investigation into college basketball, but one reporter would not be denied from asking. He also hosts the Marching to Madness (national college basketball) and Southeast Hoops (SEC basketball) podcasts, which include interviews with coaches around the country.

Blake Lovell is the founder of Southeast Hoops.
