Samsung's Bixby 2.0 development is underway with a new exec at the helm

Samsung appoints new executive for Bixby development

This could be down to the lack of support and integration it offers with a range of services and products, but blame could also be laid at the door of the Google Assistant, which was present and fully functional on the Galaxy S8 from its launch. It can understand and speak about eight languages, hoping to take on Siri and the Google Assistant.

Samsung's new voice assistant, Bixby, is much more loathed than loved, making it rather urgent that the 4-month-old service gets an upgrade to help it win over new and current users.

Former vice chief of Samsung Research in America, Chung Eui-suk, is now the head of Samsung's service intelligence group at its headquarters in South Korea, having been appointed to over see the next steps for Bixby which will aim to reverse the lacklustre response the virtual assistant has had, according to the Korean Herald. The announcement will come close on the heels of Samsung Research America's Vice Chief Chung Eui-suk's recent appointment as the head of developing Bixby as well as other artificial intelligence services.

According to a report by The Korea Herald, the company is planning to integrate Bixby with third-party services and devices other than smartphones. On the other hand, the company's chief technology officer Rhee In-jong who used to lead the development of the digital assistant's English and Korean versions will now be the head of the smartphone development. The delay is understandable the first time but the company is expected to have worked on those technical and data challenges by now.

Samsung is believed to be unveiling the new and improved version of Bixby, called Bixby 2.0 by Samsung's mobile business chief Koh Dong-jin, on 18 October at Samsung's annual developer conference in San Francisco. This is a confirmation the next version is arriving.
