According to Caralee, the babies were not expected to survive and were considered to be "miracle babies".

Evans leaves behind her husband, Jacob, four sons - Spencer, 12, Travis, 11, Nathaniel, 9 and 2-year-old Gideon - and her twin baby girls, the page states, noting that the girls were 'not even 8 weeks old'.

Katie Evans, 37, from Santa Clarita, was driving when she was struck head-on by a vehicle that had lost control after sideswiping another auto, reported the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two babies were the newest additions to a family that already had four other children. The oldest child has special needs, and has had difficulty processing the loss of his mother, People reports.

"We had people here when I told the kids that their mom was gone", Evans recalled, his voice choked with emotion.

The YouCaring page was created by his sister, Natalie Mortensen, who hasn't left her brother's side since the fatal crash.

A YouCaring fundraiser has been started to help cover living expenses for the family.
