ECP issues warrants for Imran in contempt case

A cut-throat battle is expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s Kulsoom Nawaz and PTI candidate Yasmin Rashid with the latter losing the seat to the husband of former in 2013 General Elections.

Ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz on Friday slammed the Supreme Court's dismissal of the review petitions filed by the family against the July 28 Panama Papers verdict and said revenge was being taken in the name of accountability.

As many as 44 candidates including 32 independent and 12 ticket holders of different political parties are taking part in the bye-election, said an official of the ECP.

The polling for by-election in Lahore's NA-120 constituency has begun at 8am and will continue till 5pm amid stringent security measures.

"Some 30,000 voters will be polling their votes on biometric machines", Dawn reported.

A key feature of this election is that for the first time in the election history, biometric voting is being employed.

Although over two dozen candidates are in the running, it is believed that the main contest is between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Dr Yasmin Rashid and PML-N's Kulsoom Nawaz.

Surprisingly, no candidate of three leading parties has their vote registered in the constituency NA-120 for which they are contesting.
