Brown, who was born on March 10, 1900, became the world's senior senior citizen in April following the death of previous record-holder Emma Morano, who also was 117 at the time of her demise. The news has come just a few days after she was controversially removed from her home in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Violet Mosse Brown died in Jamaica at around 2.30pm yesterday.

Fairweather himself had been considered the world's oldest child with a living parent. Ms Brown says it was eating cows' feet, reading the Bible and staying away from rum that kept her going.

Less than a week later, she died at Fairview Medical Centre in Montego Bay, St. James Parish, on Friday afternoon, after being transported there from Duanvile JAmacia, where her family has lived for more than 200 years.

Following her death, 117-year-old Nabi Tajima, of Japan, is now the world's oldest person. She died on August 4, 1997, at the age of 122 years and 164 days.

Russell, 85, said she didn't look well on Saturday and was taken to a doctor who said she had irregular heartbeat and was dehydrated.

She was slated to be visited by personnel from The Guinness Book of World Records.

Brown's achievement made her a local celebrity.

At 117, #Violet Mosse Brown didn't hold the title as the world's oldest person for long, after taking the honor from Spaniard Emma Morano, who passed away in April this year at 117 years of age.
