Since Monday, power has been restored to more than 3.5 million homes and businesses in Florida.

The figure represents nearly 60% of the state's electricity users, who were still experiencing power outage as of 9 p.m. EDT Monday, according to the state's Division of Emergency Management.

For all the money Florida Power and Light spent on its "smart grid" system, you'd think the power company could better communicate with the 1.5 million South Florida home and business owners who remain without power in Hurricane Irma's aftermath. "Power lines that serve communities and neighborhoods go for miles". "We're conducting a criminal investigation, not ruling anything out at this time".

Some Florida utilities, including FPL, warned customers it could take weeks to restore power in the hardest hit areas.

"Power, power, power", Florida Gov. Rick Scott said recently. In Pasco County, 118,223 customers were still experiencing outages.
