Vehicle drives into counter-protestors at white nationalist rally, woman killed

A suspect, identified as 20-year-old James Fields from OH, has been detained on suspicion of second-degree murder. Fields is from Maumee, Ohio. There are now reports that two police officers were also killed in a helicopter crash near the scene of the rally. The other was a pilot who transferred to the state police aviation unit last month and was one day away from his 41st birthday.

A 20-year-old OH man is being held in connection to a crash that killed a counter protester at a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia today.

"There is no place for you here".

"I don't think violence is the correct way to voice your opinion", Haley Wilt said.

In San Francisco, people reacting to the events in Charlottesville gathered in Union Square.

Mentioning that the current unfolding of events in Virginia is not linked to his presidency, Trump said, "It has been going on for a long time in our country - not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama".

The impact hurled people into the air and those left standing scattered, screaming and running for safety.

Hundreds of white marchers with blazing torches clashed briefly with counter protesters on the Charlottesville campus of the University of Virginia on Friday, the eve of a rally planned by thousands of white nationalists, media said.

Groups in Santa Ana, downtown Los Angeles, Oakland and other parts of the state said they are appalled by the displays of violence in Virginia and say President Donald Trump has not done enough to denounce it.
