He said none of the deaths occurred during this time. Rajeev Rautela said,"The doctors said alternative arrangements for oxygen cylinders were made to deal with the emergency". "Heart-wrenching incident. Saddened by children's death". The previous government gave the contract to the supplier for 8 years for oxygen supply.

But according to PTI, a Union home ministry statement that quoted the Gorakhpur police superintendent said 21 children died because of shortage of oxygen. He had even inaugurated a ten bed ICU, a six bed Critical Care Unit.

The Uttar Pradesh Government, following this report, jumped in defence of the medical college. The disturbance in the oxygen supply in an entire night which was connected to children caused the death of innocuous children. It is the place where both births and deaths take place.

Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader, alleged that the hospital did not conduct port mortem examinations on the dead children. "The matter is under investigation and the guilty would be punished to prevent the re-occurrence of such incidents", Yogi Adityanath said.
