If a warning is issued, Guam residents should take cover quickly - in a concrete structure, preferably underground - and stay there until instructed otherwise, according to the fact sheet titled "Preparing for an Imminent Missile Threat".

Trump joked that after North Korean tensions slacken, Guam will see a "tenfold" increase in tourism.

Trump said he wanted to pay his respect and told the governor, "You are safe".

"Tourism - I can say this - you're going to go up ten-fold, with the expenditure of no money...."

The call comes just hours after Trump held a question-and-answer session with reporters, during which he said he had not yet talked with Calvo. "It could happen", the president says. "It looks like a lovely place". "We've got 95 percent occupancy, and after all this stuff calms down, we're going to have 110 percent occupancy".

Calvo joined Trump in blasting obstructionism in Washington and likewise invited Trump to visit him in Hagatna.

It shouldn't be Democrats or Republicans.

Trump responded, "Well you're right about that, but unfortunately, you know, we're living with a very obstructionist group, but maybe that will change". Our military is so incredible....

He then reassures Mr Calvo, who he describes as a "hell of a guy", telling him the United States military is "rock solid". So you just take care of yourself.

"It looks like a attractive place", he said, inviting Calvo to visit the White House the next time he is in the Lower 48.
