The 31-year-old chose to sit for the National Anthem on Saturday night during Oakland's exhibition contest against Arizona.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio was unaware of Lynch's intention to sit but said he spoke with the veteran rusher after the game. However, it appears as though the veteran National Football League mind is now on board with whatever it is that his newest offensive weapon decides to do going forward.

"He said, 'This is something I have done for 11 years. It's not a form of anything other than me being myself'".

"I'd rather see him take a knee than stand up, put his hands up, and get murdered", Lynch said of Kaepernick. "And I mean, if you're really not racist, then you're going to see what he's done, what he's doing, [not] as a threat to America, but just addressing a problem that we have". "You do your thing and we'll do ours", Del Rio said he told, Lynch. Palmer wanted more playing time after that, lobbying to finish out a first quarter which he said Arians promised him, but Arians quickly shut that down. Raiders linebackers Bruce Irvin and Malcolm Smith joined in early a year ago, by standing through the anthem with a raised fist before a game at Tennessee. The Cardinals starters did not play in the team's 20-18 loss to Dallas in the Hall of Fame Game.

Lynch told Del Rio he has been sitting forever.

"So that's a non-issue for me", Del Rio said". They converted on eight of 10 third downs, and the defense limited the Raiders to 121 yards.

Arizona wide receiver John Brown, slowed by a quadriceps issue, did not play.

QUOTABLE: "That's where I'm from".
