NBA Announces Mexico City Games For 2017-18 Season

Oklahoma City's Andre Roberson dunks the ball during the NBA game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets at the Chesapeake Energy Arena Friday Nov. 18 2016

The NBA Mexico City games feature the Nets playing a regular-season contest against Westbrook, four-time All-Star Paul George and the Thunder on December 7. This will be the second time in the last five seasons that the Nets have played in the NBA Global Games, as the team beat the Atlanta Hawks in a game played in London in 2014.

For the 25th anniversary of their first one, they're going to play two.

For those anxious about watching the games, last season, each game in Mexico City was broadcast on either the participating teams' Fox Sports affiliate, ESPN or NBA TV.

National Basketball Association commissioner Adam Silver has made it known that Mexico is a country the league would like to explore further, even mentioning the possibility of adding a franchise in Mexico City in the future. The Thunder center had his passport canceled by the Turkish government while traveling in Europe this summer, and hasn't been out of the United States since returning on May 21, spending most of his time in New York City.

The Heat will face the Nets in Mexico City on December 9, according to a Twitter post by Mexican journalist Paulina Benavente. "We are excited to take part in fostering the NBA's global outreach and to connect with the Nets current and growing fan base in Mexico". While we have no immediate plans to expand the National Basketball Association, one of the things that we look at is whether expanding would be additive to the league as a whole. The team has not officially released its schedule for the upcoming regular season. The Nets faced off against the Atlanta Hawks in the regular season in 2014, took on the Toronto Raptors twice during the regular season in 2011 and played a preseason game against the Miami Heat back in 2008. The game will be played at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, and will technically be a Thunder away game.
