Denver Fire helping investigators look into body found in elevator

Komisarchik died between the morning of July 6 and August 2 after he was unable to escape an elevator possibly because of dementia. His body was discovered inside a parking-garage elevator at the Woodstream Village apartments

"It is a tragedy, but things like this don't happen often", Pixley said.

Sometime between then and July 31, when reports of a foul stench led to the discovery of his decomposing body, Komisarchik died.

Isaak Komisarchik, 82, was last seen alive on July 5.

The parking garage served the Woodstream Village apartments in Denver and had been closed for renovations.

"We are saddened by the tragic loss of life and extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Komisarchik's family and friends", Greystar Management Services, which manages Woodstream, said in a statement released by spokeswoman Lindsay Andrews.

Denver Police continue an active investigation into the man's death, and Denver Fire officials are now revealing new details about the events leading up to Komisarchik's death. "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident with the local authorities", a Greystar Management Services representative said Thursday.

Even if sanctions bite, will North Korea give up its nukes?

Guam Governor: 'There Is No Threat to Our Island'
North Korea said earlier this week it would complete plans to launch missiles into the waters near Guam by mid-August. President Trump phoned the governor of Guam on Friday to assure him all the residents of the Pacific Island are safe.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. The elevator cab where he was found is located in a parking garage that is under renovation construction and not now in active use.

The remains of an elderly man have been found inside an elevator in Colorado, where authorities believe he'd been trapped for a month. His disappearance sparked a large dragnet in which missing persons posters were distributed and Denver firefighters searched five ponds near Woodstream in an attempt to find him.

The Post reported that in compliance with Denver city code, the elevator vehicle should have had an around-the-clock emergency switch labeled "Alarm", and an intercom system or phone labeled "Help" for those inside to contact security.

In some cases the alarms are connected to the Denver Fire Department or an elevator monitoring company, which is responsible for investigating an emergency call. A phone or intercom system labeled "Help" is also mandatory within elevators. However, police say apartment workers failed to check the parking garage elevator after checking two other elevators in the building. Elevator maintenance workers had just found Komisarchik's body inside the vehicle, Pixley told the Post.

The body was recovered after people who lived nearby reported a "really bad smell" but said they didn't know where the odor came from or what it was.

Crews last conducted a routine inspection of the elevator in December 2016 and found it to be in good working order, Denver Fire Department spokesman Capt. Greg Pixley told CNN. When the lieutenant pushed the button, the elevator door opened, Pixley said.
