15 July 2017, 09:39 | Winston Chapman

Disney showed off some footage from the upcomingWreck-It Ralph sequel, Ralph Breaks The Internet, at its D23 expo today, revealing thatEmpire star Taraji P. Henson has joined the movie's cast. Instead, Lasseter will stay on as executive producer while Cooley, who worked his way up the Pixar chain as an intern more than a decade ago, will take on the big job. In the sequel, Vanellope's Sugar Rush is in desperate need of a part, and they run the risk of being carted off if that part is not replaced. As an algorithm, she has access to what everyone likes and knows what's hip and cool. Something similar may be what occurs in Ralph Breaks the Internet, but this time with the filmmakers going all in on Disney-owned properties like Star Wars and Marvel. There are even nods to Buzz Lightyear and Marvel's Stan Lee in there. Some early storyboarding showed Yesss explaining how to go "Viral". They land in a Disney website that resembles a virtual Disney theme park and Vanellope interrupts a gathering of Disney princesses from past and present. Jodi Benson (Ariel), Paige O'Hara (Belle), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Kelly Macdonald (Merida), Auli'i Cravalho (Moana), and Kristen Bell (Anna) took to the stage in a historic meeting of Disney princess, causing a prolonged ovation from the crowd.

The film will be a mix of fantasy and mundane, a world where unicorns will be so prevalent that they are the rodents in that world.
