Ryan Lochte was due to return to competitive action this weekend but pulled out before he was due to appear

Twelve times Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte (second best behind Michael Phelps) has recently been cleared of all charges relating to his "false police report" in Rio De Janeiro during the 2016 Summer Olympics. Citing surveillance video footage and eyewitness accounts, Brazilian authorities claimed that Lochte and his team-mates vandalised and urinated on a gas station, after which security guards pointed a gun at them and demanded recompense before they left.

The 32-year-old Olympic swimmer's criminal case has been dismissed by an appellate court in Brazil, according to USA Today. Police said the swimmers had lied and no crime had been committed against them.

Lochte still stands against the city of Rio de Janeiro with two other charges. The US swimmer had been accused of fabricating a story about getting robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro during August's Olympics, causing an worldwide scandal that drew in some of his team-mates. Rio police alleged they made up the story to cover up vandalism. Ostrow said the prosecution has 15 days to appeal again.

Lochte had previously earned a 10-month suspension from the national swim team, a penalty that has concluded as of July 1, allowing him to return to action.

Brazil's government expressed discontent about Lochte's lies, accusations, and lude behavior - yet do not appear to be levying any "ban" from the country against him.
