Patrick Rodgers took a small step towards following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods after building a two-shot lead at the John Deere Classic.

The American is also a three-time runner-up, most recently in 2014. Howell had a 69 as Americans take up 19 of the top 20 spots on the leaderboard.

Sixth-ranked Feng, seeking her second major crown after the 2012 LPGA Championship, had two runs of three consecutive birdies to seize command at the third major championship of the LPGA season.
