Federer's career title count now stands at 93, third on the all-time men's list, behind Jimmy Connors (109) and Lendl (94) and ahead of John McEnroe (77) and Nadal (73).

As a sporting contest the final was effectively over when Cilic went a set and two games down and sobbed into a towel at the changeover. 2-2 in the third set. Holds serve and is 5-4 behind.

Cilic explained that his tears at 3-0 down in the second set were more a result of his disappointment at not being able to perform at his best rather than a legacy of the pain.

Federer won the first set 6-3. Without dropping a single set over the Wimbledon fortnight, the ageless wonder has taken the title, defeating Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4.

IST: Federer leads five games to three in the first set. Cilic lost it on a double fault, of all things. "I hoped to have a chance maybe one day to be in a Wimbledon final and have a chance to win the tournament. I also did not believe that I was going to win two this year". Federer then incredibly won the Australian Open earlier this year in his first sanctioned tournament back from his break for his 18 major title. Now we'll get to see if Cilic can do the same to Federer. Hence it is predicted that Roger Federer will win today's match. Who has the upper hand statistically?

# Federer and Rosewall both have multiple Grand Slams after turning 35 years old. Marin Cilic, however, remained at the sixth place.

However, the Swiss, level with Britain's William Renshaw and American Pete Sampras on a joint record seven Wimbledon titles, enters the final as the clear favorite, having not dropped a set in entire the tournament. The Swiss also is aiming for his eight title at The Championships. In recent time, Marin Cilic has done a lot of damage to Federer as he failed to convert three match points in the quarter-finals previous year.

Among his long list of achievements, Federer becomes the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1976 to win the Wimbledon title without dropping a set.
