Mourinho opens up on Man Utd's failed Alvaro Morata move

Man United not ruling out Morata switch as their forward could be sent on loan

Chelsea's board are refusing to meet Real Madrid's asking price for Alvaro Morata and that has plunged their chase for the forward into serious doubt.

The Spain global was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and it was believed they had agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old. "I am nobody to speak about players from Real Madrid", the former Blancos boss was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

"Yes, we have had interest, that is obvious and it's public".

The Italian is eager to add the 24-year-old to his squad although the two clubs are yet to reach a financial agreement.

"But it's Real Madrid's right to ask for their players the amount of money that they want".

It seems like negotiations between Real Madrid and Man United dragged on for so long that Morata went slightly mental. AS says the English champions will submit a €80m (£70.2m) bid for the Champions League and La Liga winning striker as Conte looks to bolster Chelsea's attack for the new season.

The Portuguese lured Everton striker Lukaku to the Old Trafford for £75 million (R1.3bn), despite rumours linking him with a return to Chelsea.

"I didn't negotiate, it was Mr [chief executive Ed] Woodward who negotiated with Romelu, his agent [Mino Raiola] and the Everton board, the only thing I did was to call him when the situation was nearly there just to guarantee him that he would be an important player in my team".
