In what has become an nearly rote part of Donald Trump's meetings with foreign leaders, the USA president had an incredibly freaky handshake with Emmanuel Macron.

"You're in such good shape", the 71-year-old says in the footage, before turning to Mr Macron to marvel: "She's in such good physical shape".

It ended with both men stood face-to-face looking like they were having an arm wrestle almost half a minute later.

By our count, Trump clasps the hand of Macron for just under 30 seconds, during which he pats Macron's right hand with his left hand at one point and at another, practically jerks the French president towards him with such force that his right foot actually leaves the ground.

"Great evening with President @EmmanuelMacron & Mrs. Macron", Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning. "She's attractive and gorgeous", Ysatis said.

Why is Donald Trump seemingly unable to execute a handshake like a normal person?

He spoke on a visit to mark the French national day and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of United States intervention in World War I.

It is not the first time The Donald has commented on the physical appearance of a woman at what should be a serious meeting. President Donald Trump watched as various French military units marched by during the Bastille Day parade.

"He even brought in Brigitte Macron in for a three-way handshake and makes you wonder what is next?"

Mrs Macron was once her husband's high school teacher and their relationship has drawn worldwide attention because of the significant age difference. Trump talked excitedly to Macron as a variety of World War I-era tanks rolled to a stop near the viewing stand.

"This is a wonderful national celebration", said Trump during a joint news conference with Macron Thursday, adding, "we look very much forward to it. Spectacular".

Trump and Macron had previously shared another attention-grabbing handshake, albeit one that was far surpassed in intensity by Friday's display.

"Politics is not the nicest business in the world", Trump said in Paris on Thursday.

Trump came to France beset by allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 USA election, with emails released on Tuesday suggesting his eldest son welcomed an offer of Russian help against his father's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

In addition to the awkward Abe shake, Trump has foisted his unusual tug-and-pull style on other high-profile figures, including Vice President Mike Pence and Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.
