Dying Army veteran asks for phone calls, text messages

So Ernestine reached out to an Arizona veterans group for help getting her husband some telephone call greetings to cheer him up, and it seems to have worked all too well! The Texan veteran has undergone three brain surgeries, and his body is deteriorating very fast.

Doctors said they can't figure out the cause of his illness and all that's left to do is make him comfortable. After two hours, and no calls, he told his wife, "I guess no one wants to talk to me".

According to an interview with AZCentral, Lee's wife Ernestine says her husband is blind and he feels as though his declining cognitive abilities have deterred supporters and friends from placing a call.

"It broke my heart", Ernestine said.

Ernestine added that sometimes they can't answer the phone, because Lee is in an incredible amount of pain.

"The experience is very painful, but I wouldn't have it any other way", Ernestine said.
