Thai authorities also impounded "four Lamborghini cars and three houses worth about 400 million baht ($11.7 million) in total".

Authorities in the United States, Canada and Thailand all reportedly took coordinated action against operators of AlphaBay-an anonymous, online marketplace where users could buy and sell a number of illegal goods including drugs, credit card information, guns and other goods or services.

Meanwhile, Netizen believe Alexandre Cazes is the person responsible for running the illegal marketplace of AlphaBay that went off line the day of his arrest.

AlphaBay, a dark web marketplace for wares in the "not exactly legal" category, went offline in early July, and many users assumed the admins decided to make away with their money.

Cazes was wanted by United States authorities.

Pol Maj Gen Surasak Khunnarong, narcotics suppression commander, said Cazes was due to meet a public prosecutor, who was to arrange his extradition to the US.

On the same day he was arrested, Canadian police forces carried out two raids on residences in Quebec, according to Camille Habel, a sergeant with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Montreal.

So far, this situation has not been resolved, which only makes it more plausible to assume the AlphaBay administrator was indeed arrested. Redditors quickly voiced fear that an exit scam had taken place amid estimates that up to $3.7m in digital currency was tied up in the marketplace and might have been stolen.

According to the Bangkok Post, the body of Cazes was found by a duty officer who noticed a towel hanging from the toilet door in his cell. On the platform, the admin is known as "deSnakes", which very well could indeed by Cazes.

Dream Market has operated in the shadows of AlphaBay over the a year ago gaining traction over recent months to become the second largest market on the darknet.

By October 2015, AlphaBay had over 200,000 users, and the market continued to grow at a steady pace, receiving a new influx of users after fellow TheRealDeal market mysteriously vanished in the summer of 2016.

The first sign that AlphaBay may have been the target of law enforcement came shortly before the sudden down time, when a prominent AlphaBay vendor was arrested and willingly handed over his account to law enforcement.

Avi Kasztan, chief exec of Sixgill, predicted that "Dream Market" is likely to become the next major player on the dark web.

The Merkle goes on to say that if Cazes was the AlphaBay administrator, the news doesn't bode well for the marketplace and all of the money still locked inside its wallets. At first, numerous users suspected an exit scam; however, it has since become clear that law enforcement has taken down the underground market.
