Trump says it's possible he could pick Federal Bureau of Investigation head by next week

Demonstrators, including mothers with the organization Moms Rising, march during a protest as they attempt to deliver miniature Statue of Liberty figures to government officials in support of diversity and immigrant rights outside the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, May 12, 2017.

Raging against a political firestorm, President Donald Trump on Friday shot a sharp warning at his ousted Federal Bureau of Investigation director about possible "tapes" of their disputed private conversations, raising the provocative possibility that recording devices have been installed in the White House.

But Burr said he expects Comey will soon speak privately with members of the committee.

The warning appeared to suggest that if Comey gave his version of events, the administration might produce tapes of conversations to counter that, although it was not clear if such tapes exist.

The White House has given various accounts and explanations for Comey's firing.

"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with flawless accuracy!"

"They've been vetted over their lifetime, essentially, but very well-known, high-respected, really talented people", Trump said. Trump said. "Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???" Trump suggested. Again, Trump brought the issue back to Russian Federation, referencing a former head of intelligence's assertion that Trump was, to his knowledge, not colluding with Moscow.

Earlier Friday, Trump tweeted, "When James Clapper himself, and virtually everybody else with knowledge of the witch hunt, says there is no collusion, when does it end?"

"Well that I can't talk about". And though the White House has asserted Comey lost the backing of rank-and-file agents, McCabe flatly said, "that is not accurate".

Comey, who was sacked by President Donald Trump on Tuesday, was invited to speak before the committee in a closed session. "I actually asked him, yes". On Thursday, Trump told NBC he knew he ran the risk that by firing Comey he would "confuse people" and "lengthen out the investigation" into ties to Russian Federation. "I'm not under investigation".

Comey has not publicly discussed any conversations he has had with Trump. On Thursday Trump said he would have fired Comey regardless of any such recommendations.

CNN said Comey is "not anxious about any tapes" Trump may have, citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter.

Later, Spicer was asked by another reporter if Trump had a tape of his conversation with Comey in late January.

Trump told Fox News he did not ask Comey to pledge loyalty and only wants him to be honest.
