Trump claims unearned exoneration on Russian Federation

Donald Trump

The US Department of Justice has named Robert Mueller, a former head of the FBI, as special counsel to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and possible collusion with Donald Trump's team.

Faso declined, however, to comment on President Donald Trump saying he's the victim of a "witch hunt" or about calls by some Democrats in Congress for Trump to be impeached.

"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special counsel appointed!"

There is a reason why the Trump administration didn't support the Justice Department appointing a special counsel into the Russian Federation matter: special counsels are unpredictable, and the course of the investigation could expand faster than the administration is able to respond.

The pressure for an outside review heightened a day later, when the New York Times reported that Trump had asked the FBI Director, James Comey, to halt an investigation into Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, over his contacts with Russian officials. But in this case Mueller will answer to Rosenstein, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions has already recused himself from any Russia-related investigations.

The White House did not know about the Mueller hiring until an hour before it went public. In a written statement shortly after Mueller's appointment was announced, Trump said a thorough investigation will confirm "there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity".

Trump has called the furore since he fired Comey a "witch hunt" and insisted there was no contact between his campaign and Russian Federation .

Trump tells Russians Comey was a 'nut job'
Trump fired Comey last week, revealing in an interview with NBC that anger about the Russian Federation probe was one reason. He said that though he was personally fond of Comey, "I thought it was appropriate to seek a new leader".

"Each year, the career professionals of the U.S. Department of Justice conduct tens of thousands of criminal investigations and handle countless other matters without regard to partisan political considerations". But I think if McCaskill's account is true, it at the very least further discredits the Trump administration's original claim that Trump acted on the recommendation of the Justice Department to fire Comey.

"It was a counterintelligence investigation before now". Durbin also said that Rosenstein wouldn't say who asked him to write the memo because Rosenstein didn't want to affect the special counsel investigation. The tweets, which fired up news feeds across all media, came around 8 AM and concerned the naming Wednesday of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director and bipartisanly honored straight arrow Robert S. Mueller III.

Because it was a closed briefing, it's unclear exactly how Rosenstein described how he knew Trump would fire Comey.

Now we're supposed to believe - again, with no hard evidence, this time from a New York Times report - that, one day after his national security advisor, Michael Flynn, resigned on February 14, President Trump obstructed justice by asking Comey to find a way to drop the FBI's investigation into Flynn's ties with the Russians. If he decides that something outside the scope of the letter appointing him needs investigating, he would have to ask for permission to expand his probe.

Cutting across party lines, top American lawmakers welcomed the Mueller's for the investigation. He has served presidents of both political parties and, after taking the director job days before the September 11 attacks, oversaw the FBI's terrorism-fighting efforts over the next decade. I think it shows division, and it shows that we're not together as a country. Ryan said Congress "can't deal with speculation and innuendo" and m. In the past, a special prosecutor was typically appointed by the president, but following the Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon, the rules changed to remove this direct power from the president.
