French President Emmanuel Macron says he wants a Europe that is both more conducive to investment and more protective of workers.

Macron's party announced a list of 428 candidates, majority political unknowns, last Thursday to fight the parliamentary elections.

"For reasons of space or safety, we understand the need - occasionally - for reporter pools, on the condition that all newsrooms have access according to an established rotation", the groups said in the statement, released on websites and via Twitter accounts.

The new Cabinet posed briefly for photographs on the front porch of the presidential Elysee Palace in Paris.

He said the press will be allowed to attend the end of future Cabinet meetings and question the ministers in the Elysee courtyard starting next week.

During the French presidential campaign, Macron's team repeatedly accused Russian state media of siding against them.

France's president Emmanuel Macron is highlighting his determination to crush extremism with a scheduled visit to French-led military forces fighting jihadist groups in West Africa.

Socialist party chief Jean-Christophe Cambadelis said Macron's government "of the right and for the right" would "imperil protections for workers, drastically reduce the number of civil servants and smash public services".

"In a cross-party context, he is the right man at the right time", said Matthieu Orphelin, his former right-hand man at the foundation that Hulot set up to spread his green message.

The French leader says he will discuss defense and security issues with Trump during a working lunch at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels on Thursday.

In the list appeared Sylvie Goulard, a centrist European Union lawmaker, in charge of defense affairs, Agnes Buzyn, solidarity and health minister and Muriel Penicaud, a minister in charge of employment issue.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, 69, who led France's military operations overseas as former President Francois Hollande's defence minister, will stay on in Macron's government as foreign minister and also be in charge of European affairs.
