Time Magazine Cover Illustrates Russia Overtaking White House

19 May 2017, 10:05 | Taylor George

Satire publication Mad magazine mocked Time for its latest cover design, which mashes up an image of the White House with the iconic St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, saying the news publication was guilty of "stealing our material!"

The magazine's cover story, Trump's Loyalty Test, looks into the growing reported links between Trump's White House and Russian Federation.

But it's the cover everyone is coming back to, a wide-open shot at an embattled President Trump and the federal investigation into his campaign's possible ties to Russian Federation. Recently the Washington Post accused him of sharing classified information on terrorism with the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, two congressional panels are also looking into Russian meddling in the election. Last week, former FBI Director James Comey was sacked by Trump amid reports he sought to expand the investigation and, on Wednesday, the Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee its probe.

But in the months since Trump's election win, most of his appearances on the cover of the magazine have been critical of his performance - largely due to the avalanche of reported scandals besieging his presidency. Time also faced criticism for " likening Trump to Hitler".

While Time magazine has gone after Trump before - showing him sitting in the White House during a storm in February and melting down in October 2016 - it also named him its 2016 Person of the Year. There were stark resemblances between Trump's cover and that of Hitler's cover picture.
