Kyle Lowry opts out of final year of contract with Raptors

19 May 2017, 10:12 | Joan Schultz

The Raptors can re-sign Lowry with his Bird rights, but they won't have much if any cap room to make sizable additions.

It was Toronto's first playoff sweep since the opening round against Washington in 2015.

It might be a little easier to swallow having shown some fight in the latter two games, but no matter how it went down, or who was primarily responsible for it, a four game sweep is a tough series to end on.

LeBron James was close to flawless again as his Cleveland Cavaliers completed their second clean sweep of the National Basketball Association playoffs and stormed into the record books. James and the Cavs beat the Raptors in six games in last year's Eastern Conference Finals.

In a stat that I had to look at several times from several sources to make sure was accurate, the Cavaliers outscored the Raptors in fast break points by a 16-0 margin.

He singled out his players' confidence in three-point shooting, plus defensive areas such as shot challenges and rotations. From there, the Cavs were able to close the game out as Toronto could not close the gap the rest of the way.

Lowry said on Monday when asked about what he wants the most. "He's battle-tested and he came up big". Kyrie Irving had 27 points, while Kyle Korver finished with 18.

For the majority of the first quarter, the change seemed to spark the Raptors.

Toronto led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter that ended tied at 28.

DeRozan, who was coming off a career playoff high 37 points, went down in a heap in the second quarter after taking a knee to the groin from Iman Shumpert. We know at the end of the season, things weren't like everybody thought they should be, including us.

The Raptors went on a run in the third and even led briefly in the fourth quarter (something that they hadn't even previously sniffed at in this series), but ultimately it wasn't enough.

Amesbury noted that the consistency of changes in the moss samples taken from different parts of the Peninsula was particularly striking.

His current streak of NBA Finals appearances is already a total unmatched since the Boston Celtics dynasty of the 1960s. However, if the Wizards win, the Cavs will own home court.

"It's not satisfying, but it is rewarding when you can advance", said James, who will play in his ninth conference finals in 14 seasons. "We've got to learn from that".

With Russell Westbrook out of the playoffs, LeBron James is now the current points per game leader at 34.4.

LeBron James had 35 points in the opener.

D'Antoni guided the Rockets to the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and third-best record in the National Basketball Association at 55-27, and his team broke the league's regular-season record with 1,181 three-pointers. After making 15-of-16 free throws in Game Three, James followed that up with 8-of-9 in Game Four from the charity stripe. "It happened. We got swept and it's going to be one of them long summers for us".

Irving had 27 points, including 19 in the second half.

3-Ball: The Cavs used the three-ball once again to ignite their offense. Assistant Mike Brown took over as acting coach for Game 3 of the first-round series against Portland.

Former Beacon Journal beat writer Jason Lloyd, now with The Athletic, deemed the rotation of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Kyle Korver and Deron Williams the "shooterpalooza lineup". Korver jumped from 5.3 to 10.3, scoring 32 points in the final two games against the Raptors.

In four games, they averaged 116.3 points on 50 per cent shooting.

But becoming a free agent is the only part of his future that he's considered. They lost the Cavs in an earlier round and in fewer games than they did a year earlier.
