Graham's Takeaway From Briefing With Deputy AG: Russia Probe Is Now Criminal

19 May 2017, 09:28 | Darin Griffith

"This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history".

The leaders of the House Russia investigation, Rep. Mike Conaway and Rep. Adam Schiff, announced Thursday that they sent a formal request to the FBI seeking records of Comey's discussions with Trump.

"As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know - there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity".

The same pattern was in evidence when he fired FBI Director James Comey last week then used a television interview to suggest he acted out of frustration with the FBI's Russian Federation probe - even though his team spent several days saying the ousting of the bureau's director had nothing to do with that issue.

"If I were Mr. Mueller I would jealously guard the witness pool", Graham said.

"President Trump again is demonstrating his contempt for the rule of law", he said. "And numerous questions he declined to answer came down to his concern of whether he might interfere with the investigation by Robert Mueller".

The announcement was made by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein.

"I respect the move, but the entire thing has been a witch hunt", says Trump. Mr Comey is said to have declined, and only offered his "honesty".

One Dies, 17 Rescued as Building Collapses in Lagos
About fifteen people have been rescued from a collapsed three-storey building in Lagos today, Thursday. We first reached 14 of the labourers and some were treated by the agency's medical team and LASAMBUS.

But Mr Trump, after issuing a measured statement when the news first broke on Wednesday evening, allowed his resentment to burst forth on Thursday in angry morning tweets.

"The takeaway I had", said Sen.

"It seems to me now to be considered a criminal investigation", Graham told reporters.

Rosenstein gave the impression that recently-appointed special counsel Robert Mueller was treating the investigation as a criminal matter, Graham explained.

"No, no. Next question", he said, speaking at a press conference with the Colombian president.

President Trump, joined by Reince Priebus, Vice President Mike Pence, Steve Bannon, Sean Spicer and then-national security adviser Michael Flynn, speaks by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin in January.

The position of special counsel gives Mueller a great deal of freedom to conduct the inquiry as he sees fit, including the ability to "prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation" if he believes it "necessary and appropriate", according to Rosenstein's order.
