Government seeks answers on cyber-attack

On Monday NHS Digital said it had posted a patch to prevent such an attack on 25 April and that the WannaCry incident would have been prevented if all NHS organizations had installed the patch on their systems.

A statement released by the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on Monday said: "We can confirm that the radiology services affected by the national cyber attack at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital have been restored".

"This ransomware attack is a wake-up call to all Australian businesses to regularly back up their data and install the latest security patches", Mr Tehan said.

The virus is then able to encrypt files and block user access to them, displaying a pop-up window onscreen telling users they have been blocked and demanding payment.

The attack has also hit 150 countries around the world since Friday.

Mr MacGibbon declined to comment on the identity or type of the business impacted by the unprecedented cyber attack but said it was a small company, which did not provide critical infrastructure.
