Fox News Founder, Roger Ailes, Dead at 77

Ailes, 77, died yesterday morning from complications of a subdural hematoma after falling and injuring his head at his Palm Beach mansion.

That October, Ailes flipped the switch on Fox News Channel.

Still, sexual harassment was what got him kicked to the curb, sure, but the collateral damage he did to women the world over by making sure all Fox females were foxy females, is one of his more grotesque legacies. Here is NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik.

CNN's Brian Stelter reports: "Fox, which has a pro-Trump vibe in prime time, usually ranks No. 1 among cable news channels with 25- to 54-year-olds, a key demographic for advertisers".

FOLKENFLIK: This from "Fox & Friends" host Ainsley Earhardt. In April 2012, I ran into him during a party at The Four Seasons, shortly after I had returned from a reporting trip to his childhood hometown of Warren, Ohio. Rupert Murdoch, who hired Ailes to create Fox in 1996, said in a statement, "He will be remembered by the many people on both sides of the camera that he discovered, nurtured and promoted".

FOLKENFLIK: He certainly saw it that way. It was a preview of his Fox News credo that political correctness was to be shunned in favor of blunt, sometimes insensitive coverage of touchy issues.

A former GOP operative to candidates including Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Ailes later turned his media savvy to running TV networks. The law would only apply to lawsuits in which Ailes is named as a defendant.

"With Ailes" death, the women suing Fox News and other executives can't depose him to elicit new information, Colin Miller, professor of law and associate dean of faculty development at the University of South Carolina School of Law, said. Barnes said conservatives had found a home.

One of the first delusional traits of leftists is to imagine there the media environment wasn't "hyper-divisive" before Fox News began. He defined Fox as patriotic, implying that competing journalists didn't care about their country. "He was an artful liar", said Angelo Carusone, president of the liberal-backed media watchdog Media Matters for America. So, what Ailes did is he adopted all the trappings of a news network - the anchor desk, the sets, the studios. Ruddy also points to another factor.

Ailes spent much of the winter in Florida, McLean said.

A longtime confidant of media titan Rupert Murdoch, Ailes was a central figure in conservative USA politics for decades.

AHCA Opponents Say Older Kentukcians Will Pay More For Healthcare
Under this new plan, states can get a waiver that would allow insurers to set prices based on how healthy a person is. Consider what legislation, like Medicare for all with universal coverage, will mean for public health in our country.

Predators oust Blues to make franchise history
It was just the second goal of the playoffs for Johansen, who credited defenseman Yannick Weber for pushing him into the play. And both Ryan Johansen and Calle Jarnkrok scored in the third despite the Predators finishing with just 18 shots on goal.

Erdogan: Turkey will not take part in Raqqa offensive
The protesters said they were demonstrating peacefully until Erdogan's guards and supporters suddenly moved toward them. Video shows Erdogan supporters and bodyguards flooding through the police line and beating protesters on American soil.

Much of Ailes's brief life after Fox was hard to know.

JOE MUTO: Trump equaled the ratings. Only when masses of people began to follow him did the media give him significant coverage, even though he is a respected US senator.

"He saved people - routinely, when they got into trouble".

"He just felt very passionate about what he was doing", Chandler said.

FOLKENFLIK: Fox presented Trump to the Republican electorate as a plausible political figure. After graduating in 1962, he landed an entry-level job on "The Mike Douglas Show", a daytime variety program initially based in Cleveland. I hoped the publication of my book in January 2014 might spur women to come forward.

MEGYN KELLY: And the problem that we had at Fox, like so many other companies in America right now, was that there was not a safe avenue for reporting.

"That was the last we spoke". Ailes himself possessed hardline views on immigration, with many suggesting his fingerprints could be seen on Trump's vows to build a wall along the US-Mexico border and launch a deportation force to throw out millions of undocumented immigrants.

When Ailes hosted a reception one year at his home in Upstate New York, the chairman and his wife warmly welcomed Smith and his partner, Gio Graziano.

Before his death, Ailes took steps to limit any financial loss from lawsuits. "Watch FOX News! Watch FOX News!".

The passing of Roger Ailes on Thursday inspired stories about his career broadcast on all the major network and cable stations.
