Deadline to register to vote draws close

UK general election funny

ANYONE who wants to have a say on who will be the Isle of Wight's next MP, must be registered to vote by midnight on Monday.

Constituents who were already registered to vote in the May elections do not need to register again to vote in the general election. Gerald Meehan, Acting Returning Officer, said: "If you're going away towards the end of May and planning to use a postal vote then please be aware that these will not be delivered to you until between May 24 and June 1, so it may be better for you to apply for a proxy vote instead". Voting by post is an easy and convenient alternative to voting in person.

Proxy voting allows you to nominate someone else to cast your vote for you.

And while interest is high - the number of people visiting the website to apply for a postal or proxy vote has also risen by over 2,000 per cent - there are fears some residents will not realise it is their responsibility to ensure they have a vote at the election on June 8.
