A Particularly Dangerous Situation tornado watch has been issued by NOAA's Storm Predition Center until 8 PM CDT for parts of western Oklahoma and northwestern Texas, including Woodward and Altus in Oklahoma and Wichita Falls, Texas.

State emergency officials are juggling multiple responsibilities, severe weather damage in Barron County and more severe storms moving into Southern Wisconsin Wednesday night. The storm also brought numerous reports of large hail and strong winds.

Sheriff Fitzgerald said people yelling for help underneath the rubble could be heard by the first responders to the scene at the trailer park near Chetek, a small town located approximately 110 miles from the twin cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

He says he has seen some mobile home parks with tornado shelters, but they tend to be rare.

It destroyed 50 to 60 trailer homes and injured 25 people, 17 of whom were taken to hospitals.

"I know there were walls on top of people", Fitzgerald told reporters. He said at least one child was among the injured.

Fitzgerald says the National Weather Service still has to confirm it was tornado that hit the area.

Cornell killed himself by hanging

Home after home was gutted by intense winds, tree tops were stripped clean and memories were spread out all over the ground of the Prairie Lake Estates mobile home park. Entire subdivisions were lost and 25 people were injured.

The twister struck at the trailer park along United States 53 in the Barron County town of Prairie Lake, about midway between Chetek and Cameron.

Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin said community members also were pitching in.

The combination of moisture, an unstable air mass, a weak front just west of the Twin Cities combined with wind sheer to set up the severe storm and tornado, he said. "While there is tragedy, what we have going on here is a miracle", said Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald. He said he and his wife drove away to safety and returned just after the twister left the area to find the park in ruins. Emergency officials are reporting seven homes destroyed, according to the state's emergency management agency. The mobile home park has been declared a total loss.

One of the tornadoes that touched down Tuesday night destroyed about 20 homes in central Kansas.

Another person was killed when a twister hit a housing subdivision in Oklahoma, CNN reported.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Umscheid says radar images suggest the storm may have produced other brief, rain-wrapped tornadoes as it moved over rural farmland.

The storm hit the Cameron trailer park at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
