Mourinho fears worst after Ibrahimovic, Rojo blows

21 April 2017, 09:02 | Joan Schultz

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho painted a bleak picture after injuries to striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Marcos Rojo tainted his side's victory over Anderlecht and progression to the Europa League semi-finals. But you have to try to do everything to accelerate the process.

United switch their focus back to the Premier League as they travel to Burnley on Sunday before travelling to Manchester City on April 27.

"I want to wait (for tests), but my feeling is not good".

Mourinho had kinder words for left-back Luke Shaw, having publicly and sharply criticised the England global on several occasions in recent weeks. "Always trust them. Luke Shaw did something new today, it means a lot for me", he told a news conference.

"I put a tackle in, I run right, left, I'm not a cheat".

"These sort of things make me trust the players".

Mourinho feared he was powerless to stop the FA from taking Rashford to Poland but how it seems his argument will be heard.

HOW WE GAINED CONTROL "I think we had like 17 shots and 10 on target, something like that but the game was hard".

When asked if the initial prognosis was fairly positive, Mourinho added: "Fairly negative".

The Armenian struck again early on but United were given a scare, with Anderlecht captain Sofiane Hanni bringing the tie level, before Rashford capped a man-of-the-match display with the goal that secured a 2-1 extra-time triumph. Even when he doesn't score goals, I have all my trust in him.

The United manager's relief was clear at the final whistle - and he was quick to applaud the visiting support.

Press Association Sport understands the Football Association has yet to make a concrete decision one way or another on the matter and will pick it up with United towards the end of the season. Ibrahimovich may have played his last game of the season.

Rashford, who has scored once for England, has played 49 games for club and country this season, having broken into the United's first-team last term. "When you concede a victor in extra time, it's always hard to find a way back".
