The apparent prison-cell suicide of convicted killer and disgraced New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has triggered numerous calls for probes, while a Jamaica Plain juror who voted to acquit the ex-NFL star less than a week ago was stunned by the news.

ABC News is reporting that when guards found Hernandez hanging from a bed sheet in his prison cell, he had "John 3:16" written on his forehead.

"Lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.by a physician at the hospital". Prosecutors said he gunned them down after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on him in a Boston nightclub.

According to Martin W. Healy, chief legal counsel to the Massachusetts Bar Association, Hernandez's death could mean his 2015 conviction is vacated, since the former footballer had appealed the ruling on the 2013 killing of Lloyd.

In three seasons from 2010-12 with the Patriots, Hernandez had 175 catches for 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns.

But authorities have yet to release the incident report, officers' logs, video footage from the area around Hernandez's cell or other details about prison protocol, despite repeated requests from The Associated Press. He was cut by the team in 2013 after he was arrested in the Lloyd murder.

His death also came just hours before his former New England Patriots teammates visited the White House Wednesday to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.

Fallon said he was not aware of any suicide note and officials had no reason to believe he was suicidal, otherwise he would have been transferred to a mental health unit for evaluation.

Hernandez's older brother Jonathan "DJ" Hernandez, meanwhile, took to Facebook Thursday to wish his mother, Terri Hernandez, happy birthday.

As news of Hernandez's death spread, those who knew him and the victims in the 2012 shooting met it with a mix of disbelief, and in some cases, defiance.

According to WBZ, Hernandez who was 27 at the time of his death, also appeared to have red marks on his hands and feet.

Investigators suggested Hernandez shot Lloyd to keep him quiet about the two earlier killings. You've got a heart. "That was a positive thing in our minds", said Alex Cugno, who grew up with Hernandez in Bristol.

Friends also were grieving in CT, where Hernandez was raised. "If he hung himself not too long after ... clearly, I must have been wrong". "And he was in really good spirits so for this to happen, we're shocked and we still don't believe that he took his life and we still believe there's a lot of foul play going on", said Randy Garcia, Aaron Hernandez's cousin. "Something just doesn't add up", added cousin Randy Garcia.
