Indians reported killed in U.S. bombing

21 April 2017, 12:50 | Taylor George

The recent action by the Trump administration to kill affiliates of Daesh, also known as ISIS or ISIL, in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan shows that the newly formed USA government really cares about the safety of the people who live in the region.

Since the United States dropped a massive bomb on an Islamic State cave complex in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday, US military officials have been circumspect about the damage, but one voice has been filling the information vacuum in the region: Islamic State radio.

A security officer was quoted saying "13 Indian Daesh militants were also among those killed".

The GBU-43, a non-nuclear, 10-tonne missile powered by a wave of air pressure, was dropped on a tunnel network of Islamic State militants last week. However, it was later reported that at least 44 ISIS militants and four key leaders of the group were killed in the bombing. He said two of the "Daesh commanders Mohammad and Allah Gupta were from India".

USA reticence to discuss casualties and other damage from the 22,000-pound bomb concerns local officials in Nangarhar province who supported the use of the bomb after military officials said ground operations had failed to penetrate the Islamic State stronghold in the mountains of the Achin district.

"The enemy had created bunkers, tunnels and extensive mine fields, and this weapon was used to reduce those obstacles so that we could continue our offensive in southern Nangarhar", Nicholson added.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he approved of the strike and it was created to support Afghan and U.S. forces conducting clearance operations in the region.
