Google Home's assistant can now recognize different voices

21 April 2017, 02:17 | Kevin Scott

The move will allow Google to build out a model in which advertisers can attribute voice searches on Home to specific users, allowing platforms like Google AdWords to target ads and Google Analytics to track back and tie together each specific consumer to the device.

Google says Home will be able to answer personal questions for topics like your schedule, shopping lists, news and podcasts, photos, information about your commute, your calendar and Uber account. In other words, they can't tell if I'm giving it a command or you're giving it a command. Googles voice-activated assistant can now recognize whos talking to it on the Googles Home speaker.

There are many benefits to such hands-free control; you don't have to get out of bed to turn the light off, for example, nor do you have to walk across the room if you're busy doing something else. (Amazon originally fought the order before the suspect agreed to share the information.) Shear said that case illustrated how recordings made in your home may end up being used in unexpected ways. Adding up to six different voices, especially if those voices are part of the same family and sound similar, makes profile authorization increasingly complicated. This won't solve the "Burger King" problem of commercials being able to trigger the Google Home through your television. So if you ask "What's my day like?" Each person can download the Google Home app and complete the set up process from their own device.

Canadiens coach Julien defends Pacioretty, mild reaction to Nash hit on Price
Pacioretty needs to remember that now more than ever, because the noise surrounding him is becoming nearly impossible to ignore. And suffice it to say, the victor will big-time be in the driver's seat entering Game 6 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Despite the technological advance, Google's voice-distinction feature won't prevent unauthorized users from activating the assistant. Home owners can add up to six accounts, according to a company blog post. "This comparison takes place only on your device, in a matter of milliseconds".

The update is rolling out to all U.S. Google Home users and will expand to the United Kingdom, where Google Home only recently launched, in the coming months. But Google says in its blog post that it will reach United Kingdom in coming months.
