Joy Lane's name became a topic of conversation after Steve Stephens mentioned her during his recorded manifesto before he killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. He then shot him, forever linking Lane and the victim's family.

Stephens was spotted about 11 a.m. Tuesday at a McDonald's in Harborcreek Township, Pennsylvania and was stalled by workers who pretended that Stephens' French fries were not yet ready while they alerted police.

"In addition to encouraging Stephens to turn himself in, Debbie Godwin voiced her forgiveness, saying, "(Y) ou know what, I believe that God would give me the grace to even embrace this man.

Lane said she and Stephens dated for a while, and had discussed getting engaged, but they broke up and she urged him to seek help for gambling issues.

Following a nationwide manhunt, authorities were notified that Stephens' auto had been seen in a McDonald's parking lot near Erie, Pennsylvania on Tuesday morning.

"All I can say is that I wish he had gone down in a hail of 100 bullets", Haymon said.

State police saw Stephens driving from the restaurant and rammed the back of his auto during a two-mile chase, causing Stephens' Ford Fusion to spin out in Erie.

Godwin will be laid to rest Saturday, almost a week after he his last meal with his children.
