Brighton chairman says won't break the bank after Premier League promotion

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton sets his sights on winning the Championship title after securing promotion to the Premier League.

Brighton and Hove Albion are all but certain to play in the Premier League for the first time next season, following their victory over Wigan Athletic on Monday afternoon.

And so, being a mere matter of time as it is, Brighton will become the 48th new team to compete in the Premier League since its inception and the first virgin team since fellow south coasters Bournemouth made it up in 2015/16.

"It was an ambition and challenge for me, and they told me straight away that it was the club's ambition to reach the Premier League". I went up with Newcastle as a team that just came down, and although we'd lost players, I had a very strong team.

"He gets a lot of respect and a huge amount of credit from me".

Among those good players is Anthony Knockaert, the 25-year-old French winger, formerly at Leicester, who was signed in January last year from Standard Liege and was voted this season's Championship's player of the year. But Bloom said he would stick to a sensible spending strategy.

But a good old fashioned rivalry match is something we've been missing. His two previous spells as a Premier League manager both ended in him being sacked, although many felt he was treated extremely harshly by both Newcastle and Norwich.

Glenn Murray opened the scoring for Brighton eight minutes before half-time in front of their own fans at the Amex Stadium. "This was a club that had been in the play-offs two years running before I got here, so it wasn't a club that was used to being at the bottom end of the division". "We'll back Chris as much as necessary to get the squad together for next season".

Current Newcastle boss, Rafa Benitez, is also expected to guide the Magpies to the Premier League in the coming weeks. He did that. It wasn't pretty or easy, but even the biggest clubs in the world have bad seasons'. Everyone is impressed with the job he's done at Brighton.
