BJP yet to be at its peak, says Amit Shah

21 April 2017, 01:58 | Taylor George

BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image was an "unassailable asset" for the party and the verdict in the recent assembly polls was an expression of people's faith in the PM and the party organisation. We have invited Shah to hold a meeting with booth-level workers. "Till that happens, the golden era of the BJP will not have arrived".

He called for making India a happy and prosperous nation and a leading country in the world by 2022 for which the pace of progress needed to be quickened.

Shah exhorted party members not to rest or allow complacency to set in because of the BJP's continued victories.

The Prime Minister was received at the Biju Patnaik International Airport by the Chief Secretary and DGP of the state. "Modi!" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai", stood along the road illuminated with lights of different colours as the Prime Minister acknowledged greetings from the cheering crowd by waving to them while standing through the open sunroof of an SUV for nearly two hours. Modi is scheduled to speak tomorrow.

State BJP leaders, too, accepted that Panda, who has very good relations with senior BJP leaders, will be a welcome choice for the party.

Odisha BJP chief Basanta Panda claimed that his road show will herald a "new era of politics" in the state, hopeful that his party, always a marginal force in this eastern state, will emerge as the key challenger to the ruling BJD by the time next Lok Sabha and assembly polls arrive in 2019.

Modi focused on developing "Jan Dhan" (bank accounts, wealth for the poor), "Van Dhan" (tribals, forests, environment, etc), "Jal Dhan" (irrigation, drinking water, water recharge, use of sea water) for all encompassing development of the country.

"Political observers are of the opinion that the BJP can face the Congress, but not the challenge thrown by regional parties".

"Uttar Pradesh has shattered that myth", he said, citing how the cycle of Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party rule in the state had been broken.

The BJP wants to repeat a UP in Odisha. At present, there is a government of BJP-led coalition in Manipur.

Shah has given a clear signal in the executive meeting that the party would work relentlessly to grab the eastern state in the 2019 elections.

"If the Left governments think they can suppress the BJP by attacking us, they are wrong".

When his government took over, India s revenue receipt stood at Rs 13 lakh crore which has shot up to Rs 20 lakh crore now, he said, hoping it should be over Rs 26 lakh crore by 2019, when the term of his government ends.
