Bill O'Reilly to get payout up to $25 million

It is not known exactly how Fox News will handle O'Reilly's exit or whether he would be allowed to say goodbye to viewers on the air, according to a NY magazine report.

Protestors rallied to get Bill O'Reilly fired and advertisers jumped ship after a New York Times reported that Fox News paid $13 million in settlements to women accusing O'Reilly of harassment.

Anita Hill - who during Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas's 1991 confirmation hearing accused him of sex harassment in televised testimony - reflected on the current state of affairs in a USA Today interview published the same day as O'Reilly's ouster from Fox News.

Then Palin turned her focus on the women who made accusations of sexual harassment, telling them that it's their responsibility to quit their jobs and change the workplace culture. But $65 million of that is going to Ailes and O'Reilly, not the women who were victimized. She said she wouldn't go on O'Reilly's show, despite the high-profile platform it provided, for a few years afterward. As was the $40 million payout to Ailes.

The memo, signed by Rupert Murdoch and his sons, Lachlan and James , also reiterated Fox's "consistent commitment to fostering a work environment built on the values of trust and respect".

The outrageous payouts to Ailes and O'Reilly aren't the only reason to question Murdoch & Sons honest commitment to making Fox News a safe workplace for women. Precisely two weeks later, Ailes resigned. O'Reilly is believed to make as much as $20 million to $25 million per year. That's why the payout totals $25 million.

It's possible that O'Reilly's team does in fact have other evidence of a smear campaign, but it's unclear why they thought the conference calls might sway the Murdochs. They knew Megyn Kelly had complained to management about those comments.

O'Reilly, who has been off the air on vacation since April 11, said in a written statement he was proud of the "unprecedented success" at Fox.

O'Reilly denies all the allegations of sexual harrasment. She called him "the king of cable news" and highlighted that his program had been No. 1 in cable news for 16 years.

O'Reilly also released a statement after his departure was announced.

According to Steel, she was surprised when O'Reilly was sacked.
