The technology giant's chief executive said "our hearts go out to the friends and family" of Mr Godwin, who was shot dead by Steve Stephens in the U.S. city of Cleveland in Sunday in an apparent random killing.

The man known as the "Facebook Killer" was found dead after a brief police pursuit in the USA state of Pennsylvania, authorities said on Tuesday.

Lane said her and Stephens were romantically involved for a while and had discussed getting married.

"I could not do that if I did not know God, if I didn't know him as my God and my savior, I could not forgive that man", she said. "And that's been hard", she said. But they ended their relationship and she pushed for him to seek help for issues with gambling.

They last talked Saturday night, she told the affiliate, when Stephens told her he'd quit his job and was moving out of state. Each one of us forgive the killer, the murderer.
