United Kingdom set to kickstart Brexit with the European Union on March 29

Britain's ambassador to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow, informed the office of European Council president Donald Tusk on Monday morning of the Prime Minister's plans.

The move comes nine months after people voted 51.9% to 48.1% in a referendum in June a year ago.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is rejecting the idea that Britain's impending notification of its intention to leave the European Union will overshadow an upcoming summit to mark the 60th anniversary of the EU's founding treaty.

European leaders have stepped up their rhetoric over the past week as the start of negotiations draws nearer.

It is expected that the 27 other European Union member nations will agree to the start date, with an initial response from them with 48 hours, the BBC reported.

The report anticipates the new bills will be in addition to the Great Repeal Bill, which will scrap the 1972 European Communities Act that paved the way for the United Kingdom to enter the then-European Economic Community, ending the legal authority of EU law.

"Half memberships and cherry-picking aren't possible", Juncker told the German newspaper.

Rumors that May would trigger Article 50 last week were quashed by sources close to the PM, after Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon declared her desire for a second independence referendum. Officials say that is now likely to be held in early May.

On Sunday, Sturgeon said she could revise her timetable for the referendum if May was willing to compromise.

May will meet First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones, as well as local businesses, as she tries to show she is including all areas of Britain in negotiations with the EU. I made clear my determination to strengthen and sustain the precious union.
