South Korean prosecutors on Wednesday summoned former president Park Geun-hye for questioning over the huge corruption scandal that led to her being impeached from office last week.

Chang-geun held a one-on-one meeting with Park in July 2015, and on August 15 of that year, Chey received a presidential pardon and was released from prison where he was serving a sentence for embezzlement.

"I have concluded that it is not appropriate for me to run in the election to maintain stable national security and manage a fair election", Hwang said.

It is unclear whether Park not taking the dogs with her qualifies as abandonment under South Korea's animal protection law, which defines lost or abandoned animals as those wandering without an owner in public places or left deserted in paper boxes or other containers.

South Korea's Constitutional Court dismissed Park from office last week following her impeachment by lawmakers over allegations she colluded with longtime friend Choi Soon-sil to extort companies to donate $70 million to dubious foundations in exchange for favorable treatment.

"But the criminal investigation will continue and could yield more explosive details about corruption at the top levels of government and business".

Mayor Jim Kenney (D) is "devastated" that ICE has impacted his city. "ICE's enforcement actions are targeted and lead driven". Almost 250 people across Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia were reportedly arrested by ICE last week.

Park has stayed in her private home in a southern district of Seoul since she vacated the presidential Blue House on Sunday night.

Park's impeachment left the country divided, with a hard core of her supporters continuing to demonstrate long after the court's decision was announced on Friday.

South Koreans will elect a new president on May 9. Park's legal team has reportedly said she would actively cooperate with the prosecution office's investigation. Prosecutors say that Park knew of the plan.

The Samsung Group, South Korea's largest conglomerate, is already embroiled in the scandal and its head, Jay Y. Lee, is in jail on trial on bribery, embezzlement and other charges.

Both Choi and Lee strongly deny any wrongdoing.
