There is nothing like a pizza and cupcake party at the Garlic Knot when someone is about to live out one of their dreams.

There will be a lot of interest in the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria from across Canada's smallest province.

She didn't believe it when she was invited.

Snowboarder Daina Shilts, from Neilsville, brought home gold from the Winter Games four years ago. "The boys lacked a little concentration but we shall make some changes in the group stages", said Team Uganda head coach Sam Kiggundu.

"Joy is really competitive", is how Mary MacLeod described the athlete.

"We are deeply saddened that the delegations from Special Olympics Afghanistan and Special Olympics Ghana were not able to obtain visas to travel to participate and compete in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria", a statement released today by Special Olympics International (SOI) reads.

But aside from skiing, what she's most looking forward to is seeing new places and meeting new people. A blink and about three decades later, she'll race for that same feeling in Austria.

"I just can't explain to you what a great athlete he is", she said.
