North Korea test seen as ominous development due to technical progress

20 March 2017, 02:00 | Taylor George

The government of North Korea is touting a "great leap forward" after it successfully tested a new high-thrust rocket engine which could potentially aid the country in its efforts to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking the U.S., CNN reported.

Mr Trump made the comments to reporters while departing his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he spent the weekend. He added that administration officials had meetings during the weekend about North Korea, among other issues. While he did not refer specifically to the rocket-engine test, he said Kim Jong-un was "acting very, very badly".

One of the sources said, "There could be a few more people assisting (in the murder), which will raise the number of the total of North Koreans involved to around 10".

As aerospace engineer John Schilling wrote in January, North Korea's primary space launch vehicle, the Unha-3, "could be pressed into service as a crude ICBM".

Malaysia's police chief said Sunday that authorities are looking for more North Korean suspects including an "important person" suspected of involvement in last month's assassination of Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is seen with South Korea's foreign minister Yun Byung-Se in Seoul on March 17.

China wary of U.S. talk about `all options' for North Korea
The test of a new high-thrust rocket engine was hailed as a "great leap forward" by North Korea, state media reported Sunday. The US alleges that these tests have been carried out in violation of the UN Security Council resolution.

Atletico Madrid 3-1 Sevilla
But an Atletico Madrid source told the paper: "We know now we are going to lose Antoine, it is a matter of when not if".

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pushed back against the tougher US line on North Korea, reiterating his country's view that the only way to rein in its reclusive neighbor is through talks. This is an unusual admission considering that the South prefers to play down North Korea's weapon capabilities. They have been playing the United States for years.

The US alleges that these tests have been carried out in violation of the UN Security Council resolution.

But Mr Tillerson said that by taking other steps, including sanctions, the USA was hopeful that North Korea could be persuaded to take a different course before it reached that point.

It said the President also met with military personnel.

It has said previously it would attempt a moon launch in a decade.
