However, while the Nintendo Switch that was sent back was a new one, it does not change the fact that the save data was apparently downloaded to be returned into the device.

Still, the console has to maintain its popularity beyond its launch window first, so hopefully Nintendo has some good games to show at E3 to make the Switch a compelling purchase during the all-important holiday season later this year.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Nintendo has doubled the number of Switch consoles it intends to manufacture in 2017 from 8m to 16m.

The Nintendo NES Classic Edition stock comes and goes in major retailers like eBay and Amazon, but they come in steep premium ranging from $144 to $161 plus shipping.

In multiple regions the console was hailed as having "sold more in its launch weekend than any other Nintendo hardware in history", but Nintendo has yet to provide a specific tally.

The process that Patsuann was able to document showed that there might already be a cloud save system in place for the Nintendo Switch, but only Nintendo now has access to it. "If Nintendo is able to produce and sell the amount claimed then this would be a complete turnaround from the Wii U and would position the Switch as a serious competitor to PS4 and put annual sales of the console on a similar trajectory to the Wii".

The news of increased production may come as a shock to some analysts. With big-name titles like Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 all headed to the Switch later in the year.

The folks over at Digital Foundry made a decision to put the Switch to the test, using the game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as part of their analysis.
