Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives hilarious response to Pep Guardiola comment

20 March 2017, 01:16 | Joan Schultz

Guardiola was forced to get on the front foot in defence of Sergio Aguero who wasted a number of chances, with the former Bayern Munich boss suggesting a pairing with Gabriel Jesus could have served a greater goal.

Pep Guardiola seemed incredibly happy with the way Manchester City played against Liverpool on Sunday, especially after their exit from the Champions League earlier in the week.

Third place Manchester City host fourth place Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon (4.30pm kick-off) as both sides look to consolidate their places in the Premier League's top four.

For Liverpool, the addition of a proven goalscorer capable of taking the kind of chances that Adam Lallana, glaringly, and Roberto Firmino, not quite so, failed to would make them a so much more formidable proposition.

Klopp was less amused when he was asked about the game itself, however.

He said: "I never came here and said we are going to win one title". I could see in training, the guys were so sad.

It was such a good opportunity that even Firmino thought Lallana had to score.

What should trouble Begiristain is that on this and other evidence there is not a great deal between the team he has helped produce and the one fielded by Klopp.

"The lads did really well, so I'm fine with this".

With Manchester City hosting Liverpool both Manchester United and Arsenal must win and put the pressure back on them for the Super Sunday game.

Brad: Sunny and warm start to spring
After a chilly morning with temperatures in the low 30s, Monday is looking to be the warmest day of this coming week. Despite the clearing conditions, our temperatures will struggle due to the passage of that cold front.

"With the conditions we played that game, after being (knocked) out of the Champions League and playing against Liverpool, one of the best teams, and how we played against them means a lot to me - so that is why I am happy with my players".

"It was intense, we defended well, we had a few problems but we came back".

Meanwhile, Manchester United extended their unbeaten league run to 18 games as a 3-1 victory at relegation-threatened Middlesbrough took them up to fifth place.

"I can not run around after a draw against Man City, but of course it's a success". It is a point and that's good.

It took just five minutes after the restart for Liverpool to take the lead.

But it was Adam Lallana who should have scored the decisive goal, the England global somehow mishitting his shot from eight yards after sublime Liverpool build-up play as both teams lost ground on Tottenham in the race for the second - with Manchester United now just four points behind Jurgen Klopp's fourth-placed side.

A point was fair, but Chelsea were the real winners.

However, the manager is well aware that Liverpool need to be better against teams in the bottom half of the table if they are to finish in the top four and secure Champions League football.

After the "little horse" comment, Mourinho added "perhaps we will be able to race next year" which proved prophetic as Chelsea sprinted away from the field.
