Jayhawks-Spartans Among NCAA Games To Complete Second Round

20 March 2017, 08:01 | Winifred Adams

That makes him a fine symbol of a Michigan State program known under Tom Izzo for its grit and what they call in football playing to "the echo of the whistle". The Spartans were a slight underdog going in and trailed 10-0 to start the game.

Michigan State had no idea how to contain the Kansas guards in Sunday's 90-70 loss.

The Jayhawks are one of three number one seeds who will advance to the Sweet 16.

While Kansas freshman Josh Jackson went off against the Spartans (he dropped 23 points), all eyes will surely be on Frank Mason III and Purdue's Caleb Swanigan in this battle. "They just took over".

"I feel like we're all competitors", Jackson said.

"We get a chance to play 35 miles from Lawrence and I think it's just great for the fans and for us to get a chance to play there for the Sweet 16".

This is the third time this season MSU and Kansas have been at the same neutral site and the first time they've met.

"Well, I'm excited", said KU junior Devonte' Graham, who hit the Spartans for 18 points, four assists and three steals in 34 minutes on Sunday.

Coleby's inside bucket off a rebound came in a 13-4 second-half run that increased a 54-53 lead at 12:14 to 67-57 with 8:06 to play.

Congress, BJP to Prove Majority in Manipur Floor Test Today
The blockade which was imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) on November 1 previous year has been in force since then. Singh, from Bharatiya Janata Party, was sworn in as chief minister of Manipur last week.

Not long after the Jayhawks' knocked off Michigan State and just a few minutes before Baylor stepped onto the BOK Center floor for its game against USC, Baylor coach Scott Drew peeked his head into the Kansas locker room and shouted, "Great job, guys".

The Kansas head coach also pointed out this was the kind of game that only happened because of what the team went through during the regular season. "But I'm always going to make the best decision for myself (going forward)". Jackson took two hard dribbles toward the paint before spinning back toward the baseline for a fade-away jumper off the glass - as pretty a bucket as you will see this weekend, with apologies to Lagerald Vick and his monster, two-handed finish of a Graham alley-oop pass. Michigan State has a 15-5 record in round of 32 games since 1985, including 13-2 under Izzo.

At the time Kansas was up by 10, but the taunting technical became a five-point swing.

Sure, all those teams had plenty of blue chip underclassmen, but they rode the shoulders of their upperclassmen guards. In the end, I think this will go down as one of the best games in the tournament and Kansas squeaks out a tight victory.

Bridges scored 13 points to lead the Spartans in the first half.

National Player of the Year frontrunner Frank Mason plays that way for these Jayhawks. They knew I would be.

KU's win trimmed Michigan State's lead in the all-time head-to-head series to 7-6 and made the Jayhawks 2-1 vs. the Spartans in NCAA Tournament play.

The all-around play of the Wolverines has sent two good teams packing, and if they can keep it up, more water-gun fights are in store for Beilein's bunch. If this was his last game, thanks for the memories, Miles (but there could be some MUCH better ones if you stick around for just one more dance). "Landen got in foul trouble and he came in prepared and ready to play".
